When you’re running on fumes…

Back to the archive

During this week’s Momentum Collective Q&A, we talked about burnout. How sneaky it can be, and how different it looks when you have ADHD or other neurodivergence.

I wish I could say I’ve cracked the code on never burning out, but I haven’t. What I have learned is how to see it coming earlier and plan differently when I know a busy season is coming.

Here’s the reframe I shared in our session:

👉 Burnout isn’t always avoidable, but we can design for recovery.

When you know a busy season is coming:

  1. Simplify everything: meal planning, housework, content cadence. Reduce decisions.

  2. Batch energy instead of tasks: e.g., “What can Future Me thank me for later?” (pre-writing posts, automating small things).

  3. Set non-negotiables for sleep, movement, and food, not for productivity.

  4. Pre-communicate boundaries to your team, clients, and community: “Hey, I’ll be slower to reply next week."

These things might not totally prevent burnout. But they can help minimize its impact and make recovery that much easier.

Talk soon,

Em
