Your values are your best decision-making tool

Back to the archive

If every decision feels like a 47-tab mental spiral, you’re not alone. ADHD brains struggle with decision-making because there are so many factors to weigh and they all feel equally important.

Here’s a simpler way to make choices that feel aligned and reduce decision fatigue:

👉 Use your values as a filter.

Ask: Does this move me closer to or further from what matters most to me right now?

If it moves you closer, it’s a yes (even if it’s scary). If it pulls you away, it’s a no (even if it’s shiny).

Example:

  • If one of your top values is freedom, maybe the “smart business move” that locks you into 10 standing meetings a week isn’t actually smart for you.

  • If you value connection, saying yes to a community collab might matter more than sticking to your perfectly optimized schedule.

Your values are built-in guardrails. When you honor them, your decisions get lighter, and your systems become sustainable, not forced.

Em
